Bob began painting as a boy, winning a number of contests for children. He was primarily a portrait painter until he retired in 2008. At that time he met a lovely Canadian lady; Bob retired from his real estate business and moved from Oregon to Kingsville, ON, Canada.
They spend their summers in Canada and winters on a tiny island in the Caribbean called Bequia…site where portions of Pirates of the Caribbean was filmed. It’s only 2 miles wide and 7 miles long but hosts some of the most beautiful beaches and scenery in the Caribbean. Bequia is just 9 miles south of St Vincent in The Grenadines.
Bob paints mostly seascapes and landscapes now, with the occasional portrait commission. He especially enjoys palette knife painting. He paints in oils, enjoying the ability to layer color, glaze, and make minor adjustments as the painting progresses. “I try to create emotion, to give the viewers the feeling they’re part of the scene, that they can relate personally to it,” says Bob.
Bob’s desire to be a part of something greater than his personal environment began as a young man. Originally he planned to have a career in the military, as his father had. Bob spent almost 3 years at West Point before deciding to go in a different direction. He graduated from the University of Oregon in mathematics and spent the next two years in India as a Peace Corps Volunteer teaching high school math and physics.
Following grad school Bob became a TV news anchorman and news director. During those years he produced, wrote, and narrated 3 documentary films. Ultimately he decided on a career in real estate. Bob became a published author in 2005 when he wrote "Risk Hotline for Real Estate" - a book how to avoid the many costly pitfalls when buying and selling a home. During those years he painted as time allowed from his real estate business; now he paints fulltime…that is, when he’s not hiking enjoying Mother Nature.
